Football World Cup in Brazil

The world Cup has come home! I know that the English invented football but WE, BRAZILIANS, PLAY IT!

I am sure that you had hear quite a lot about the Cup in Brazil. Our national media had plenty of time to do his very worse! No doubts that Brazil has serious problems that need immediate actions but being the host of  the Football World Cup put Brazil on the headlights!

CBF is our confederation of State Federations of Football and it has more than 200 teams registered and playing football in all four levels in the Brazilian Champions League. Our 20 top clubs has more than 165 million fans! It is quite common in Brazil, for a fan to have two or three teams that he like and cheers for! There is the beloved one, normally from his home state. My is Corinthians! Two times FIFA's Club World Champion and it has 25,5 million fans! The World Cup initial game between Brazil and Croatia took place at Corinthians new arena and the semifinal game between Argentina and Holland will also take place there.

The arena was a long time dream of the band of DOIDOS (crazy), as the Corinthians fans call themselves! The arena cost around US$ 540 million, quite a lot, but a club with this many fans can easily pay it, right?

Well then I came to the reason of this article, football organization in Brazil, my point of view!

Even that we have several clubs with more fans than any European teams, we have no capacity to retain our best players in Brazil! Out of the 23 players in the National team, 19 plays abroad! The CBF and all State Federations are administrated by politicians or people wanting to get into politics. Football in Brazil is a political power like no other! The vast majority of the fans have a very low formal school education provided by a very bad government run education system. So the fans are easily manipulated by false promises and not a single club in Brazil is administered as a company!

In Brazil, club administrators say "Contract this player and put the club in debt! It is not you who will have to solve the problem latter!!". This is very true, since most clubs have millions in debt with the local, state and federal government! But no a single one has ever been declared bankrupt! Furthermore, clubs that could make billions of US with such large crowds of fans are always in debt!

We have several attempts to chance all this with several laws being put for analysis on the congress, but the lobby and dirt politicians made it worthless or inocula!

I am convinced that a change is coming, slow but sure! Investors are looking ever more into Brazilian Football and its money making potential! I am sure that money talks louder than politics simply because without money there is no politicians!

Next text I will write about investment opportunities in Brazilian Football!
All the best,
FBDV
